Title

False Prophets

Scripture
I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran. I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.
(Jeremiah 23:21)
Devotional
I do not know who these prophets are; I just know that I do not want to be one of them. Every believer is to sit under the prophetic utterances of those who have been called to proclaim the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now, a prophet by simple definition is one who speaks forth the mind of God. The evidence of a prophet is that when he speaks, sin is revealed and when sin is revealed repentance is the fruit. Eloquence, style and the ability to convince do not make a prophet. Enlightenment, being sent and obedience to the truth are the prerequisites to prophecy. The following verse (verse 22) defines the proof of the prophet, "If they had stood in My counsel, and had caused My people to hear My words, then they would have turned them from their evil way and from the evil of their doings." A word to preachers: does your preaching turn people from the evil of their doings?
