Title

Maybe We Need A Recession

Scripture
…They acted proudly… And they shrugged their shoulders, Stiffened their necks, And would not hear.
(Nehemiah 9:29)
Devotional
Nehemiah is describing insolent pride. God had blessed the nation of Israel time and time again. Yet each time they would respond by turning away from the very God that blessed them. Sadly, God’s people often do the same today. I see it in our nation. America is in a time of financial prosperity; yet she is morally bankrupt. Unfortunately, nothing seems to turn people to God like hard times, and nothing seems to turn people away from God like good times. How foolish we are. During times of prosperity we become complacent about the things of God. Holidays have priorities over the Lord’s day. Instead of getting out of debt we acquire more. Instead of families drawing closer together, they fall further apart. Instead of becoming tender hearted toward the things of God, we act proudly, shrug our shoulders, stiffen our necks, and do not hear. Maybe we need a recession.

I think we're getting to that point now in the economy. God is going to pick up some global market share when things worsen.
