Title

The Contrast Of Honor and Poverty

Scripture
Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
(Proverbs 13:18)
Devotional
Many, if not most of the Proverbs are a series of contrasting statements between good and evil, success and failure, and honor and dishonor. Our text is no exception. If the proverbs are true, and if we listen and apply these truths to our every day lives, the results will have to bring goodness, success, and honor. If we do not, then we are to expect to be at a disadvantage. We will experience discord instead of good, failure instead of success, and shame instead of honor. However, knowing these contrasts alone will not produce a positive result. We must receive the correction and instructions they teach and apply them to our lives. If we neglect them we can expect poverty and shame. When it comes to the business of life, Proverbs are like nuggets of gold in settings of silver. They are riches in themselves.
