Title

It Is Really Arrogance

Scripture
You shall not at all do as we are doing here today-every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes-
(Deuteronomy 11:8)
Devotional
Because of man’s high esteem of himself he is inherently arrogant. That is, he usually thinks more highly of himself than he should. Now, just in case you may be thinking that you do not have an arrogant bone in your body, may I suggest to you that shyness and bashfulness are but another form of arrogance. Arrogance is what causes us to only do whatever is right in our own eyes. It is the excessive idea that neither God nor man knows what is best for me. Arrogance looks for agreement, seldom does it seek honest counsel. Arrogance is predominantly impressed with itself, rarely others. The goals of arrogance are “me” goals, seldom do they include the godly welfare of others. Arrogance simply does its own thing for its own sake. Let us not do as we are doing today, “Every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes.”
