Title

Responding To correction

Scripture
He who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, "Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?"
(Acts 7:27)
Devotional
Our response to correction will more than often reveal our innocence or guilt. Next to anger, sarcasm is the response of choice to those who are in the wrong. Our attitudes toward correction will reveal a lot about our nature. If you find yourself angered, contentious or defensive when approached with a remedial word, you most likely are guilty of the allegation. What I attempt to do when being admonished is pray for the right attitude and listen, honestly listen. I do not attempt to defend myself or give a retort until I have had adequate time to weigh the charge. The harder it is for me to do this, the more apt I am to be guilty as charged. I must further realize that when I am the one giving the correction that the one I am correcting will have the same tendencies to retort. Furthermore if he or she negatively responds and I respond in kind, I may be speaking with a wrong attitude.
